Hiking among the redwood trees. Photos from Muir Woods National Monument.

Muir Woods National Monument is a preservation area of redwood trees in Marin County north of San Francisco, off of Highway One. It is named after the noted environmentalist John Muir. It is a beautiful spot for hiking, and a great "first look" for those not well acquainted with the redwood forests of Northern California. Unfortunately, in the summer it can be quite touristy, and the access road leading to Muir Woods can become difficult to navigate due to excessive traffic.
