Source of open data

San Francisco has been publishing a number of datasets to the public on the city's open government portal at https://data.sfgov.org/.

San Francisco's open data policy can be found on GitHub.

"In 2009, Mayor Newsom issued an executive directive promoting open data policies and requiring all City of San Francisco departments to share their non-confidential data sets on DataSF, an online platform created for this purpose. The following year, the city’s Board of Supervisors passed an open data policy to increase “government efficiency and civic engagement.”" [source]

There are a few groups/meetups that work on open-data-related issues:

• The San Francisco Code for America Brigade
• Open Data Bay Area meetup group

There are also occasional events that happen around open data. Probably the biggest is the annual open data day which usually has an event in SF.
