The City of Syracuse is the municipal entity responsible for governing Syracuse, a city in Onandaga County in western New York State on the Erie Canal and home to Syracuse University.

Composed of the three branches of government, Common Council, a Mayor, and Onandaga County Court, the City of Syracuse derives its authority from its Charter under New York State Law1.

According to the US Census Bureau, the City of Syracuse, NY is 25.04 square miles in area with a population per square mile of 5,796.8. Syracuse is located at the North East corner of the Finger Lakes Region.
