David Cawthra

David Arland Cawthra was born March 12, 1897 in Ryerson Twp., the son of Francis ‘Frank’ Cawthra and Mary Elizabeth Goulding.

At the time of the 1901 and 1911 census, the family lived in Ryerson Township – specifically identified as being on Lot 7 Concession 8.

David signed his attestation paper on March 23, 1916 in Burks Falls

At the time of enlistment David identified that he lived in Burks Falls and that his occupation was that of farmer.

David married Jessie Elizabeth Blackmore on April 14, 1920 in Burks Falls.

David and Jessie had two children.

David died in 1982 I Fergus.

In his Discharge Certificate, David is identified as having enlisted in the 162nd in Burks Falls on March 11, 1916. He is identified as having served in England and France.

He was discharged as medically unfit on November 7, 1918.

 

David arrived in England on November 11, 1916 on the S.S. Caronia.

He transferred from the 162nd to the 2nd Pioneers in December.

He stayed with his unit until October 27, 1917 when he received a gun shot wound to his chest.
