DALEY, PTE. THOMAS JOSEPH Reg. #3110399

Thomas Joseph Daley was born September 12, 1890 in Croft Township, the son of Robert and Mary Daley.

At the time of the 1891 Census, taken on April 6, 1891, 8 month old Thomas was identified as living with his parents and siblings in Croft Township. Th family continued to reside in Croft Township at the time of the 1901 and 1911 censuses. 

Thomas enlisted on June 16, 1918 at Haileybury at age of 27. At the time of enlistment he identified himself as a farmer and his next of kin  as his father Robert who he identified as living at Port Anson.

At the timer of enlistment, Thomas identified that he was living at Charlton, Ontario.

 

 

In his discharge certificate it was identified that Thomas Joseph Daley enlisted in the 1st Depot Battalion; 2nd C.O.R. (Central Ontario region) on July 6.

It identified that he served in the C.M.G.R. Pool (Canadian Machine Gun Reinforcement Unit) in France.

He was discharged June 22, 1919 as part of demobilization.

Thomas arrived in England on August 16, 1918 on the S.S.Carnarvonshire. On September 13 he was taken on strength with the C.M.G.D. where he remained for the duration of the War.

 

 

During his service he appears to have received some type of injury to his left forearm in September of 1918 but the exact nature is unclear.

In January of 1919. He became seriously ill with influenza and was invalided back to England from France.
