William appears to have joined the Forces too late to see action in Europe.

The 2^nd Canadian Depot Battalion was authorized in December of 1917. Its purpose was to reinforce the 3^rd, 75^th, 124^th and 198^th Battalions through the 12^th Canadian Reserve Battalion.
