Henry George Faris was born September 21, 1891 in Leitrum County, Ireland, the son of William Alfred Faris and Eliza Jane Stuart.
He immigrated to Canada, arriving in Quebec May 27, 1913.
He enlisted June 29, 1915 in Edmonton. He identified that he was a cement worker and that his next of kin, his mother was still in Ireland.
In 1919, Henry married Margaret Sullivan in Edmonton. In 1919 he lived in Holden, Alberta. The couple’s eldest daughter was born in Alberta. Their other five children were all born in Sundridge.
Henry died February 5, 1985 and is buried in Sundridge.
In his Discharge Certificate, Henry was identified as having enlisted in the 66th Battalion in Edmonton on June 29, 1915 and to have served in France.
He was identified as having received a gunshot wound to his head and right hand.
He was discharged April 5, 1919.
Henry arrived in England on the S.S. Olympic on May 7, 1916.
He was made A/Corporal in May 1916. In July 1916 he was transferred to the 9th Reserve Battalion from the 66th.
He reverted to private and was transferred to the 49th Battalion in July in the Field.
On October 5, 1916 he received a gunshot wound to the head and hand and was reported dangerously ill.
