Joseph Edward Glass was born February 13, 1885 in Middlesex, Ontario to Joseph Edward Glass and Mary E. Faircloth.

By the time of the 1911 census, the family had moved from Middlesex to Spence Township. Joseph’s father, using his middle name Edward was identified as a farmer. Joseph Jr. was identified as a mason – however, in his Attestation papers signed April 3, 1916 in Burks Falls, Joseph identified his occupation as a farmer.

On September 29, 1916 at Camp Niagara, Joseph Edward Glass was discharged as being medically unfit.

At the time of the 1921 census, Joseph, now age 36, was identified as living with his parents in Spence Twp., together with his sisters Elizabeth and Violet.
