JOHNSTON, PTE CECIL B. Reg. # 657556

Cecil Barton Johnston was born November 14, 1894 in Lount Township to William and Sarah J. Johnston.

At the time of the 1901 census the family remained in Lount Township where William Johnston was described as a farmer. The family remained in Lount Township in 1911.

At the time of the signing of his Attestation papers February 15, 1916, Cecil identified that his next of kin as his mother Sarah living at Wattenwyle, Ontario. (Wattenwyle is located southeast of ‘Bummers Roost’.).

In his Discharge Certificate, Cecil is identified as formally enlisting in the 162nd on February 15, 1916. He was identified as having served in England and France. He was discharged on March 6, 1919.

Cecil arrived in England with the 162nd on November 11, 1916 and in December was transferred to the 35th Battalion.

He was transferred to the CMGD (Canadian Machine Gun Depot)  in early 1917 and in June was identified as being with the 4th Machine Gun Co.
