JONES, PTE WILLIAM

This would appear to be William Rufus Jones, the son of Rufus and Anni-Minnie (Goheen) Jones. He was born in Powassan Dec. 29, 1895

In 1901 the family lived in Ryde Twp. and in 1911 in South Himsworth

William signed his Attestation papers on June 3, 1916 in Powassan. William identified that he had been bor in the Township of Ryde. He identified his next of kin as his father Rufus Jones of Powassan.

In his Discharge Certificate, William is identified as enlisting in the 162nd on January 3, 1916. He is identified as having served in England and France as a Sapper.

He was discharged on March 3, 1919.

William arrived in England on November 11, 1916 on the S.S. Caronia as part of the 162nd.

He was transferred to the 2nd Pioneers in December 1916.

William was posted to France in June of 1918

On October 11, 1918 William was wounded. 

As the note below indicates that William had previously been injured while stationed in England in November 1917.

As noted, October, 1918 he was wounded. The wound was identified as the result of shrapnel or as a gunshot wound to his left arm.
