JUDD, PTE. SAMUEL Reg. # 657551

Samuel Alexander Judd was born February 17, 1882 in Ryerson Twp., the son of Frederick Charles Judd and Anne Maria Alexander.

At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as living in Ryerson Twp.

At the time of the 1901 census, 19 year old Samuel continued to lived to live at home with his parents in Ryerson Twp. He was identified as a labourer in a sawmill.

Samuel married Ithiol 'Beryl' Victoria Armstrong in Toronto on March 24, 1913. Samuel identified that he was a farmer, residing in Ryerson Typ. at the time of the marriage. 

Samuel and Beryl had four children.

Samuel enlisted February 14, 2916 at Sprucedale. 

He identified his residence was Doe Lake and that he was a blacksmith.

At the time of the 1921 census, Samuel and family were identified as living in Ryerson Twp. Samuel identified as a farmer.

In his Discharge Certificate, Samuel is identified as having enlisted on the 162nd on February 17, 1916 at Sprucedale. 

He identified as having served Canada and England. 

He was discharged as medically unfit August 15, 1918.

Samuel arrived in England on November 11, 1916 on the S.S. Caronia. 

He transferred from the 162nd to the 35th Reservce Battalion and then to the 4th Battalion. 

In March 1917 he was identified as being at the C.C.A.C. (Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre - centre where the wounded were assessed for either further treatment or return to duty).

(The reason for the medical discharge is not given - other than he had a small goitre.)
