Valentine Nickle was born Dec 31, 1893, the son of Benjamin and Susan Nickle of Chapman Twp (where they lived in 1901)
At the time of the 1911 census, while Valentine’s mother and siblings were identified as living in Burks Falls, Valentine and his father Benjamin were shown as working as loggers in Similkammen, Yale and Caribou District, British Columbia.
In family records, Valentine s identified as enlisting at Niagara, August 5, 1915.
He is identified as marrying Margaret Jane Turnball Lee on April 19, 1916 in Simcoe County.
Family records shown him discharged on May 11, 1917 due to a gun shot wound to his right heel.
At the time of the 1921 census, Valentine is identified as married, a lodger in Burks Falls, a labourer. Valentine had a daughter Marjorie Susan Nickle born April 16, 1922 in Burks Falls.
At the time of the 1935 Voters’ List, Valentine and his wife were identified as living in Burks Falls. Valentine was identified as a farmer.
Valentine died November 12, 1957 in Woodbridge.
In his Attestation papers signed August 5, 1915 at Niagara, Valentine identified that he had been born in Wiarton on December 31, 1893. He identified his next of kin as his father Benjamin of Burks Falls. He identified that he was a locomotive fireman.
In his Discharge Certificate Valentine was identified as having enlisted with the 76th Battalion at Niagara on August 5, 1915.He was identified as having served in England and France.
He was discharged February 11, 1919 as medically unfit.
In the proceedings related to his discharge, Valentine identified that he intended to live in Trout Creek.
Valentine arrived in England on the 4th of May, 1916.
In June he was transferred from the 76th Battalion to the 4th Battalion.
In July he was identified as being recommended for Lance Corporal, and then Corporal.
On May 5, 1917 he was identified as having received a Gun Shot Wound
