Ernest George ‘Ernie’ Ross was born March 29, 1897 in Ahmic Harbour, son of Charles Albert ‘Ab’ and Emmeline (Neely) Ross.

He enlisted April 24, 1916.
In his Discharge Certificate, George is identified as having enlisted in the 162nd at Burks Falls on April 6 and as having served with the Canadian Engineers in France. More specifically he served with the 4th Bn. Of the Canadian Engineers.
George Ernest Ross arrived in England on November 11, 1916 on the S.S. Caronia. Shortly after arrival he was transferred from the 162nd to the 2nd Pioneers. He appears to have been stationed in France before the end of 1916.
On June 4, 1918 he was identified as part of the 4th Battalion, Canadian Engineers.
He returned to Canada on the Saturnia arriving in Montreal August 4, 1919. He was discharged Aug 7, 1919.
