SCHADE, HARVEY MORRIS FLT, SGT

Harvey Maurice/Morris Schade was the son of Walter Fred Schade and Mildred Irene Morris of South River.

Harvey was born in Trout Creek Janaury 8, 1924.

He enlisted in North Bay in March of 1942 and was ‘winged’ as a navigator at Malton December 20, 1942. He was reported missing over Germany Dec. 4, 1944.

After the war, the following report was prepared:

Reporting Officer: F/Lt Mac Kenzie Date: 19/7/48

“As instructed I proceeded to Gerneinde Wildeshausen K53/W 47 to investigate the crash of a 4 engine aircraft. The a/c believed to be a Lancaster, crashed at approx. 0.300 hrs. of the 4/12/43. The a/c was seen in combat with a fighter,and was eventually shot down in flames. 3 airmen were seen to bale out, one of whom was captured immediately. The other two being captured later, I visited the place of crash, which is near the village school, and found a radiator, serial No. MEL/4951 issue 13. 4 men were found in the wreckage and taken to Vechta, where they were buried in Graves 237, 238, 239 and 240 of the Russian Cemetery The airmen have now been identified and concentrated to Oldenburg Sage Mil. “

Harvey was one of the airmen killed when the plane was shot down.
