STILL, PTE. GEORGE Reg. # 204908
George Still was born on August 4, 1896 in Armour Twp. to William John Still and Mary Robinson. He went to school in Berriedale. He spent time in Saskatchewan at harvest time and enlisted in 1914. He again served in the Veteran’s Guard in WWII at Monteith and Espanola.
George was a school trustee for Wiseman’s Corners and in 1954 was president of the Burks Falls Legion.
George married Mary Isabell Ross McKay on Sept. 27, 1922. They settled on Lots 8, 9, and 10 Concession 9 in Ryerson Twp.
In his Discharge Certificate George is identified as having enlisted in the 96yth Battalion in Saskatoon on August 8, 1916 and to have served with the 47th Battalion in France and Belgium.
He is identified as having received a gun shot wound on January 14, 1917.
He was discharged on May 18, 1919.
George arrived in England on October 6, 1916 on the S.S. Laconia.
He transferred from the 96th to the 92nd Bn. and then to the 42nd Battalion in the Field in November.
He was with the 42nd when he was wounded.
In March 1917 he rejoined his unit.
In December of 1918 he was Invalided and posted to B.C.R.D. (British Columbia Regimental Depot - facility in England used to assemble men and to store and administer equipment and materials).
As the note below indicates, in December 1918 he had appendicitis followed by influenza.
