Bernard Freeman Trotter was born July 16, 1890 in Toronto, the son of the Rev. Thomas Trotter and Ellen Maude Freeman.

Bernard’s connection to the Magnetawan area is through summer vacations as the picture above left from the Ryerson history suggests.

Bernard graduated from McMaster University in May of 1915.

On pages 19 -21 of the book ‘A Tribute to Ryerson Township, 1880 – 2007’ the story of the Trotter family is told.

It was in the summer of 1912 that Rev. Trotter first bought a property on the south shore of Lake Cecebe. The purchase was the result of an exploration by Bernard in May of that year. By 2005, five generations of Trotters had enjoyed the product of that original exploration by Bernard Freeman Trotter.
