WESTOVER, SGT. ARTHUR EMERSON  Reg. # 312884

Arthur Emerson Westover was born November 10, 1892 in Belleville, Ontario, the son of Spencer Westover and Emma Brown.

At the time of 1891 census, the family lived in Belleville.

Emerson married Agnes Clarke September 23, 1914 in Toronto.

Arthur signed his Attestation papers on November 22, 1915.

He was an erecting engineer before enlistment.

He identified his next of kin as his wife Agnes.

He had previously spent 4 years in the CFA Sgt., Signaller

He was killed in action October 20, 1916

As noted, Arthur  was married and left behind a widow.

Arthur arrived in England on February 14, 1916.

In June he transferred to the 4th Brigade of the Canadian Field Artillery. In July, 1916 he embarked for France.

In July/August he was confirmed in the rank of Sergeant.

On October 20, 1916 he was killed in action.

At the time of the 1921 census, Agnes (Clark) Westover was identified as living in Toronto with her parents John and Elizabeth Clark at 141 Parliament Street. With Agnes was her daughter Audrey age 6 and Arthur, age 4.

It is through son Arthur Westover that we have the connection to the Magnetawan area which became a second home to him and his family.

Arthur married Teresa Mary O’connell on March 26, 1942. They had three children. Arthur died October 29, 1998 at Sunnybrooke Hospital.
