WHITE, PTE HARVEY ALLEN  REG. # 657527

Harvey Allen White was born January 30, 1894, in Magnetawan, the son of Thomas John White and Isabella ‘Bella’ Johnston.

At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as living in Chapman Township. At the time of the 1911 census, the family was again identified as living in Chapman Twp. Seventeen year old Harvey was identified as a farmer.

Harvey married Mary Jane Brown on June 18, 1924 in Magnetawan.

Harvey died August 27, 1982.

Harvey is identified as having enlisted in Burks Falls on February 11, 1916.

In his Attestation papers, Harvey identified that he was a farmer and that his next of kin was his father, Thomas White of Magnetawan.

In his Discharge Certificate, Harvey is identified as having enlisted in the 162nd and as having served with the 2nd Battery, Canadian Machine Gun Corps in France.

Harvey arrived in England with the 162nd on November 11, 1916.

He tranferred to the 35th Battalion in December and into the 4th Reserve Battalion in January.

He retransferred to the Canadian Machine Gun Pool and in June was reported in the Field in Camiens.

In August he was admitted to hospital at Etaples.

The description accompanying his hospitalization appears to suggest  that there was damage to his Pharynx.

He was discharged to the 4th Machine Gun Corps from Hospital in September.

In December he was hospitalized with influenza and subsequently with P.U.O. ( Pyrexia - of unknown origin fever of an undetermined cause).

He returned to his unit and in March of 1918 he was given permission to wear the good conduct stripe.

In July he was promoted to A/Lance Corporal – but in July reverted to private.  He remained in the Machine Gun Corps, 2nd Battalion

In March 1919 he returned to England.

Consistent with the note in the record, it would appear that Harvey’s pharynx had been severed.

There does not appear to be anything in the file related to what was meant by, or what caused the Sev. Pharynx.

At time of writing there is no information about Harvey's WWII service in the Veterans Guard.
