William James Whitelock was born September 14, 1896 at Coe Hill, the son of Phillip James Whitelock and Mary Ann Bird.
At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as living in Hastings North.
At the time of his enlistment in Parry Sound on May 2, 1916, William identified that he lived in Pearcely and that his next of kin was his mother Mary Ann Whitelock of Pearcely.
In his Attestation papers, William identified that he was a farmer.
In his Discharge Certificate it is identified that William enlisted May 1, 1916 in the 162nd in Parry Sound. He served in England and France.
He was discharged February 8, 1919.
At the time of the 1921 census, William appears to be living with his parents in Chapman Township.
On September 28, 1932 he married Eleanor Grace Boyes in Thunder Bay. They had 8 children of which, at least the two older were born in Sundridge.
William died April 5, 1982 in Burks Falls.
William arrived in England on November 16, 1916 where he transferred to the 36th Battalion.
In April 1917 he was transferred to the 4th Battalion in France arriving at his unit in April.
On October 1, 1918 he was wounded – specifically a gunshot wound to the neck.
He was invalided and posted to the 1st C.O.R.D. (Central Ontario Regimental Depot - facility in England used to assemble men and to store and administer equipment and materials).
