WISEMAN, PTE.  DOUGLAS Reg. # 478670

James Douglas Wiseman was born December 24, 1896 in Burks Falls, the son of James Wiseman and Laure Baillod (as per record of birth). Laure died in 1897 and James Sr.  remarried.

At the time of the 1901 census the family comprising James and Agnes (his wife) Wiseman were identified as living in Ryerson Township with children John, Agnes and James.

At the time of the 1911 census, the James and children John, Agnes and Douglas were identified as living in Ryerson Township. On Lot 9, Concession 8. (Wiseman’s Corners).

James ‘Douglas’ Wiseman signed up January 8, 1918 in Oshawa.

 

At the time of enlistment he identified that he lived in Burks Falls and was a farmer.

Of note, Douglas’s actual signing of his Attestation papers was November 12, 1917 in Burks Falls.

Douglas arrived in France on March 4, 1918 on the Megantic.

He was transferred to the 3rd Reserve (cancelled) and then to the 8th Reserve Battalion.

In August he was transferred to the 102nd Battalion.

He was wounded and died of his wounds October 3, 1918.
