WYLIE, MELVILLE

Melville Howard Wylie was born January 30, 1912 in Ahmic Harbour, the son of John Henry and Eucinia Lavina (Ross) Wylie.

Melville applied to join the RCAF in the fall of 1941 but it was not until the spring of 1942 that he received a response and in May of 1942 he enlisted as a postal clerk. He took his basic training at Trenton and then was posted to St. Jean, Quebec. In 1943 he was posted to Halifax and in January 1943 he sailed on the Empress of Scotland to Greenock, Scotland. He was assigned to a holding unit of the RCAF in Kirkby and then to Manchester and then on to London. He sailed on the SS Orantis and after a short stop in Africa landed at Naples. His role continued as a postal clerk through the remainer of the war.
