About

The HSAC is a nonprofit organization which operates without any governmental assistance. They rely on contributions from animal lovers around Alamance County, and partnerships with Alamance County veterinarians and veterinary hospitals.

Animal Care Services

  1. Low Cost Spay and Neuter- Since 1988 over 14,000 dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered through HSAC’s program. Spay/neuter packages include rabies vaccine, pain medication, fecal testing, dewormer, and flea treatment.
  2. Foster and Rescue- Since 2001 the HSAC has rescued numerous homeless or abused cats and dogs. In addition, the HSAC houses some of their rescued cats at the Petsmart Adoption Center located on University Drive in Burlington.
  3. Humane Education Program-  HSAC strives to increase public awareness of pet owners' responsibilities through their Companion Quaterly Newsletter, Quick Bark email updates, and Facebook page. Also, volunteers conduct education programs for schools, churches, and children’s groups.

Volunteer Opportunities

  1. Fostering- In order to make room for more animals, HSAC needs families who are willing to foster pets while they are waiting to find their forever homes! All food and medical expenses for fostered animals are covered by the HSAC. You can fill out the foster application here.
  2. Adoption Fairs- HSAC needs people to help set up adoption events, do customer service throughout the events, and clean up afterwards. This is a great way to get to work with the animals!
  3. Office Help- Office jobs include labeling, filing, and folding.
  4. Fundraising- The HSAC operates off of generous donations, so fundraising is a vital and rewarding way to volunteer for the organization. Fundraising projects include: Woofstock, Tour de Tailwaggers, Raffle Ticket Sales, and Barnes and Noble Christmas and Holiday Gift Wrapping. Online donations can be made at http://www.hsaconline.org/donate.html
  5. Transporting Animals- Animals need to get to and from adoption events, special events, parties, etc.
  6. Special Events/Parties- Special events happen quite often, and volunteers can participate when they are available. For a list of upcoming events, click here.
  7. Luv-a-Pet Feline Adoption Center- Located in PetSmart, this adoption center needs people to help clean cages, feed the animals, and, of course, play with the cats too!

Adoption

After filling out an adoption application, potential adopters can set up a meet and greet with any of the fostered animals. This includes spay/neuter, heartworm and FIV/Leukemia test, deworming, and up to date on age appropriate shots. To fill out the form here.

A list of special events is on the wall at the entrance to the offices.
