An Autocross event, also referred to as AutoX, is a safe, inexpensive competition. An autocross event is a timed competition where drivers, usually in their own car, navigate an on road course. The course is usually laid out by orange road cones and includes several turns and a straight away. Autocross events emphasis the importance of driver's skill in the handling of their car more that horsepower. Overall speeds are slower and are usually comparable to on road speeds and do not exceed highway speeds. Autocross events are a great way to learn driving skills. Each autocross lap is usually around one minute, and during a typical autocross event each driver may expect to get in 4-7 laps. The Camarillo Autocross is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Region of the Porsche Club of America (PCA-SBR) and is held at the Camarillo Airport. The PCA-SBR hosts several autocross events in the area, including one at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara.
