While once this term encompassed only a small region the proliferation of small wineries outside the previously well defined Wine Country has caused the term to lose some of its specificity. There are for example wineries on the way to Woodland, as well as one here in Davis.
Traditionally see Napa County, Sonoma County, Livermore Valley Wine and other important wine regions include the Central Coast, North Coast (Mendocino County and Lake County), and the Sierra Foothills.
