History

The lineage of Gohlke Pools can be traced back to Moore Building Products, where Gene Gohlke worked prior to entering the swimming pool business.[1] During his time at Moore Building Products, Gene Gohlke met owner Bert Moore, with whom he would form a partnership in 1958 for the establishment of Royal Pools of Denton. During the years between 1958 and 1963, Royal Pools of Denton built and installed around 75 pools in the North Texas area, many of which remain in operation today. Most of the pools built by Royal Pools were constructed utilizing a method of concrete application which required laborers to manually stack concrete in order to form the walls and floor of the pool. In 1962, however, Royal Pools tried a relatively new variety of concrete application known as gunite, which entails the shooting of a sand and concrete mixture through a hose at high pressure over a rebar framework. In 1963, Gohlke and Moore decided to stop building and installing new pools as Royal Pools of Denton. Gene Gohlke subsequently purchased Moore Building Products from Bert Moore and opened a pool supply store called Gohlke Pool Supply, which functioned as a pool supplier for pools built by Royal Pools Company. Shortly after opening, they also began servicing pools. In 1974, Gohlke renamed Moore Building Products to its current name, Gene Gohlke Building Products.[2]

In 1984, 10 years after Gene Gohlke changed the name of his business his son, Matt Gohlke, graduated from Texas Christian University and began working for Gohlke Pool Supply. Shortly thereafter, the two of them established a partnership called Gohlke Custom Pools, wherein they returned to the pool construction business. In 1992, Matt Gohlke purchased all of Gohlke Pool Supply and his father’s portion of Gohlke Custom Pools. Over the following years, due to rapid growth, the three divisions of Gohlke Pools moved to three separate locations. Finally, in the year 2003, the three divisions moved back to a single, larger location at 909 Dallas Drive, where the company currently remains in operation.[3] Plans are currently being made to move the Service Department and the warehouse to a newly constructed 10,000 square foot facility on Market Street in Denton.
