While Grand Rapids has a pretty limited elevation range, its few hills and tall buildings can provide some lovely views of the city and surrounding areas.

My favorite way to view the city is driving northbound on 131, looking East. Particularly if you aren't driving and it is night, it's beautiful watching the city "wrap" around you as we weave through it on the s-curve. It feels like slow motion. If you don't mind standing in a parking lot, some of the better views I've found are off of Alpine Ave NE. The back of the Best Buy parking lot toward the north end of Alpine sits pretty high up above the river valley to the East. Similarly, the Star Theater or Schuler Books parking lots provides a good perspective looking south toward downtown GR. Bwindi25 9:05, 19 September 2007 (EDT)

Standing at the fence gate, walking into the backyard of 600 Cass Ave. SE. It's a little haven in the middle of the city, touting fruit trees, and homemade everything. I try to go once a week, and every time it is still breathtaking. They always love visitors and admirers, so do stop by.
