Betty Jo (Waddington) Norek, also known as “Hubbard,” passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023 at her home in Saranac Lake.

Betty was born in Emporium, Pennsylvania on June 1, 1926 to Rexford Waddington, Sr. and Minnie (Evans) Waddington.

At the age of nine months, Betty became a foster-child of Christopher Columbus and Rose (Barr) Vandermark. In 1948, she became the bride of Michael Norek, who predeceased her in 1972. She was the mother of two daughters: Nancy Rose Grimone (Sam) of Saranac Lake and Lisa Ann Norek of Emporium, Pennsylvania.

Betty was predeceased by three siblings: Rexford Waddington, Jr., Virginia Dodge and Valeria Schmitke. In addition, she leaves five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Betty loved to read and enjoyed puzzles. She loved nature and animals, especially horses. For years, she could be found enjoying bingo throughout the Tri-Lakes area. She was known to a large number of the area residents through her work at the Blue Line Sport Shop and Kinney Drugs.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983. At Betty’s request, there will be no scheduled services. Interment will be at the convenience of her family.
