Carolyn R. Bulgey
Carolyn Ruth Bulgey, 90, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Nov. 4, 2023, while in hospice care at the Saratoga Springs hospital.
Born on Aug. 12, 1933, in Saranac Lake, she was the daughter of Elwood Fay Ober and Ruth Porter Everett.
Carolyn graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1950 and Syracuse University in 1954. She earned a master’s degree from Albany State and briefly taught school in Connecticut before her first child was born. Later she worked for AT&T in data programming as a programmer and then as a project leader. Carolyn was an active member at St. Bartholomew’s church in White Plains for many years and enjoyed singing in the choir. She retired from AT&T in 1989 and moved back to Saranac Lake with her husband James Bulgey.
Once retired and in Saranac Lake, her love of nature led her to be a volunteer at Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center for many years. She also had a love for ancestry and became interested in family history as a hobby in her retirement, contributing to developing the genealogy of her family.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 42 years, James Fredrick Bulgey; and her children, John Andrew Steidl (Julia Griffin), Jill Steidl, Jennnifer Glen (Daniel Glen) and Jamison Steidl (Rachael Ross Steidl); eight grandchildren, Nicholas Steidl (Kelly Steidl), Catherine Steidl, Christopher Steidl, Ashley Steidl, Whitney Steidl, Emily Steidl, Zoe Glen, Gage Glen; and three great-grandchildren, Avery, Elliot, and Miles. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Cheo.
