Frederick J. Charland was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Loris Charland.

"Frederick J. Charland; seaman first class in the Navy,who recently returned to the United States after eight overseas trips to Scotland, Russia and England. He has been in service since March 10,1943 and after training at Sampson and Little Creek, Va., was ordered to duty in the Atlantic theater. He visited in Saranac Lake during the past weekend and with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loris Charland of Massena, formerly of this village."
