George Carson, once mayor, dies

SARANAC LAKE-George J Carson, a life-long resident of this village and Democratic mayor here from 1941 to 1946, died yesterday, Feb. 22, at his home, 11 Woodruff St.

Mr. Carson, who also served as a village trustee from 1933 to 1937, is remembered as a "good administrator" during his years in village government, according to a fellow Democrat, Howard McKillip. He was the owner and operator of Carson Brothers Plumbing and Heating for 55 years before retiring.

Mr. Carson was born June 6, 1895 in Lewis, the son of William and Margaret (Hennessy) Carson Sr.

His wife, the former Emma D. Jerome, whom he married May 11, 1925 at St. Bernard's Church, and several nieces and nephews survive.

He was a life member of both the Knights of Columbus Council No. 599 and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Gabriels General Assembly and member of local Elks Lodge 1508.

Calling hours at the Keough and Son Funeral Home will be private.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11:15 a.m., at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. C. J. McAvoy officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in May.

Donations, in his memory, may be made to the Heart Fund or the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.
