Mrs. Irene Amell

BLOOMINGDALE - Irene W. Amell, 61, of the Overlook Apartments, died Saturday, Jan. 16 at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake. She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Tupper Lake, the daughter of Perly and Minnie (Root) Wells.

She was a lifelong area resident and had been employed as a cook at the White Fathers camp at Onchiota. She was a dietician at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake and was later employed by the Triple S Redemption Store in Saranac Lake.

She was last worked for the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, retiring in 1975.

She was married to Isadore J. Amell, who died in August 1986.

Survivors include two sons, James and Patrick Amell, both of Bloomingdale; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Carole) Snickles of Bloomingdale; one brother, Perry Wells of Schenectady; two sisters, Carole Porter of Lake Placid and Dorothy Edwards of Esperance; and nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Amell was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Robert and Kenneth Wells.

Calling hours were scheduled to take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, with a Bible vigil service at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Church, Bloomingdale, with the Rev. Patrick Mundy, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery in May.
