James E. Stearns was a World War II veteran. He is buried in St. Bernard's cemetery, where records list him as "S. Sgt. US Army WWII (veteran)." He was a son of Daniel J. and Isabella (Goddeau) Sterns.

SARANAC LAKE -- James E. Stearns, of Saranac Lake, died yesterday, March 19, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

A life-long resident of the area, he had made his home at 20 Church St.

Mr. Stearns was born in Saranac Lake on April 9, 1908, the son of Daniel J. and Isabella (Goddeau) Sterns.

He was a retired postal worker, having worked at the Saranac Lake Post Office.

He was also a World War II Veteran, serving in the Army.

Survivors include his wife, June (Duffy) Stearns; two sons, James of Ventura, Calif., and Gary of Saranac Lake; and two daughters, Sandra Stearns and Jo Ellen Callahan, both of Saranac Lake.

Two sisters, Mrs. Leona Cusprinie of Peru and Mrs. Bonnie Bubnik of Lake Worth, Fla.; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Calling hours will be held today at the Keough and Son Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A wake service will be held at 8 this evening.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:15 a.m., at St. Bernard's Church, with The Rev. Stephen Leehy as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May.
