John Keese Jr. enlisted in the U. S. Navy, July 1863. According to cemetery records, he died on board ship, and is buried in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery along with Daniel Keese, likely his brother, who died the same year. Because of the date of his service, he is considered a Civil War veteran.
