Keith William Carr emigrated to New York City from Scotland; he supervised the opening of summer estates of the wealthy on the New Jersey shore. He developed tuberculosis in 1898 and came to Saranac Lake to cure at the Adirondack Cottage Sanatorium. Apparently cured, they returned to the city; after a relapse, they returned to Saranac Lake, living at 22 Bloomingdale Avenue and 104 Main Street, where his wife first took in cure patients as boarders. After his death, she became a respected cure cottage operator at 38 Park Avenue.
