LAKE CLEAR — Lauretta Dawson, 80, of Lake Clear, died Thursday, December 3, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

She was born Dec. 10, 1906, in Harrisons Corner, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Duncan and Anna (McRae) McDonald.

She was married to Major Dawson, who died in 1970.

A resident of Lake Clear for most of her life, she and her husband owned and operated Major's Inn in Lake Clear for 38 years before retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Dawson was a charter member of the Lake Clear Senior Citizens and served as president for the past 10 years. She was named Lake Clear Senior Citizen of the Year for the last five years.

She was a member of the Harrietstown Republican Committee and the St. John's Church Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include two grandsons, Guy Dawson of Lake Clear and Jay Dawson of Breckenridge, Colo.; one granddaughter, Lee Ann Dawson of Arlington, Va.; one great-grandson, Andrew Dawson of Breckenridge, Colo.; three sisters, Joan Turner and Angela McDonald, both of Cornwall, Ontario, and Marie Fraser of Guelph, Ontario; and several nieces and nephews.

One son, James, predeceased her. Calling hours were scheduled to take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fortune Funeral Home. A Bible vigil service was scheduled for 8 p.m. today.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at noon Saturday at St. John's Church in Lake Clear, with the Rev. Thomas Moody, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in May.
