Robert L. Powers was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Powers of Lake Clear Junction.

 SARANAC LAKE — Robert L. Powers, 68, of Lake Clear, died Tuesday, May 17, 1994 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 18, 1925 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Franklin and Ethel (Donaldson) Powers. He married Monica June Oehler on June 24, 1949 at St. John's Church in Lake Clear. She predeceased him on Nov. 8,1958.

A lifelong resident of the Saranac Lake area, Mr. Powers was employed as a corrections officer at Camp Gabriels from 1981 until he retired in 1988. He had also worked as a carpenter at Donaldson Construction Company for 30 years. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of the National Rifle Association. He belonged to St. John's Church in Lake Clear.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Fezette of Saranac Lake, Joanne Powers of Lake Clear, and Paula Lavigne of Massena; two sons, John Powers of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Francis Powers of Saranac Lake; a brother, Donald Powers of Malone; three sisters, Ruth Davis of Saranac Lake, Gertrude Lintner of Lake Clear, and Patricia Knapp of Saranac Lake; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Bible vigil service will take place at 7:45 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at noon on Saturday, May 21 at St. John's Church in Lake Clear. Interment in St. John's Cemetery will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
