Sidney Morse Colgate was a grandson of the founder of the Colgate-Palmolive Company, and served as the chairman of the company's board of directors. He built Camp Beechwood on the northwest shore of Upper Saranac Lake starting in 1896.

Sidney Colgate, Founder of Soap Concern, Is Dead

End Comes at Residence in East Orange, Where He Was Born 68 Years Ago

Orange, N. J., Nov. 10 (AP)—Sidney Colgate, president of the Colgate Palmolive-Peet Company, died today at his home, 491 So. Center St. He was one of the founders of the Colgate Company.

Mr. Colgate was born in Orange, Sept. 11, 1862. He was graduated from Yale with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1885 and married Caroline Bayard Dod of East Orange in 1807.

Hr served as chairman of the War Service Commission of the soap industry.

Mr. Colgate was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and Scroll and Key, Yale. He also was a member of the Railroad and Essex County Country Clubs. Seaview Golf Club, Absecon and Everglades Golf Club. Palm Beach, Fla.

His offices were at 105 Hudson St., Jersey City.

Death was due to a heart attack which followed a slight illness of six days. The attack was brought on, his physicians said, by overwork at his business and as chairman of the Welfare Federation of the Oranges.

Surviving are his widow; a son, S. Bayard Colgate; and two daughters, Mrs. Edward P. Eagan and Mrs. Howard C. Taylor Jr.

Two years ago Mr. Colgate was seriously injured in a fall from a horse while riding on the South Mountain Reservation.
