In Chile, citizens continue to protest the government due to low wages and a high cost of living. On October 28th of 2019, 19 year old Brandon Gonzalez was the 285th person in Chile to suffer severe eye trauma from the police while protesting. Gonzalez was shot in the eye with a hardened rubber bullet. The image of a bandaged eye has now become a symbol for the protests in Chile, and no end is in sight. I rank this event on the pain scale as a 9 because the conditions in Chile, the animosity towards citizens from the government/ police force, and the injured civilians all combine to create an incredibly unsafe and negative state. This event and movement as a whole is social because the protest as a whole is a strong and influential social movement.
