What do you know about Dallas teenagers overdose on heroin?

In the late 1990's fourteen white high school and college students died of heroin overdoses in a wealthy Dallas suburb named Plano, it had recently been named the safest midsized city in America. Instead of the news reporting the teenagers as criminals, they described them as tragic victims who had bright futures ahead of them. They also said that is was the fault of these evil outside sources that could strike anytime. Both illegal immigrants and local white teenagers  were convicted for selling heroin. The white kids pleaded guilty and either got on probation or limited jail time while the illegal immigrants received a mandatory twenty year to life sentences. I placed this as part of this course because we have learned much about how different races are treated unequally compared to others. This is not just a one time thing, the media continues to talk about whites as being victims and having potential compared to the other races which are assumed to be criminals and have no future. This is a pain scale of 10. #bio #social #GEOG203                                                                                             More of this information can be found at https://academic.oup.com/jah/article/102/1/126/686691
