This article highlights efforts being taken by the National Institutes of Health to further investigate predictors of chronic pain. This task is being undertaken in hopes of narrowing down the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to one's being likely to develop chronic pain. One of the main takeaways of this article is that chronic pain is considered a "biopsychosocial disorder" in that an individual's psychological states are just as likely to influence their development of chronic pain as a biological medical issue. This particular article emphasizes the #psychological factors contributing to chronic pain, like depression or childhood trauma.
