Over the summer, in June, there was a total of 7 fentanyl related overdoses in Hartford, Connecticut. The first death was reported on Monday and just four days later, another 6 people were found dead from overdosing on this strain. One man had taken crack cocaine laced with fentanyl, and another two people died from a suspected heroin overdose. Looking at the whole year of 2019, a total of 42 people have died from overdosing, a staggering 22 more people than 2018 at this time. Starting on Saturday (June 1st), nine people in the city wee saved by naloxone. The seven deaths occurred between Monday and Friday. The concern is the fact that fentanyl is usually laced in heroin or pressed into pills, but most of these deaths were from crack laced with fentanyl. In fact, crack overdoses are very rare in the first place, so, the fentanyl is almost certainly directly related to every death. The police are urging everyone to turn in the drugs that have been tied to an overdose so they can track down the source and prevent even more deaths. In 2019 alone, the narcotics unit has seized more than 32,000 bags of heroin. #bio #GEOG203
