"Social unrest" is what the New York Times describes the citizens who are anti-government. For the past week, transport workers have been on strike against the government, which resulted in trains, subways, and buses being canceled. Since transportation was being boycotted, schools were closed and many people were off work from the lack of transportation. Protestors smashed windows and the streets were chaotic. The N.Y Times reported "His latest ambition — to merge France’s complex of 42 different generous pension schemes into one state-managed system — scares fellow citizens. And his sometimes imperious personal style continues to grate on many."  The working citizens of France disapproved of this possible change because it may jeopardize their jobs. The emotion and behavior of the people of France was expressed through their rage in the streets was in response to change of their lives.
