Leonord J. "Dewey" St. Cyr (September 18, 1928 - March 1, 2010) of Marquette was a self-employed entrepreneur.

Obituary

Leonard J. "Dewey" St. Cyr, 81, of 438 E. Prospect St., Marquette, entered eternal life Monday afternoon, March 1, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital of natural causes.

Mr. St. Cyr was born on September 18, 1928 in Detroit, a son of the late Earl Clarence and Hannah Rebecca (Kovamaki) St. Cyr. Moving to Marquette with his family in 1936, Dewey graduated from Graveraet High School in 1946. He then proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. After military service he later graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in business. On June 21, 1952 he married his wife, the former Marion E. Lind in Rapid River. Dewey worked as a self employed entrepreneur all his life. Some of his major accomplishments include the operation of Cyr Bottled Gas Co., the startup of the Marquette Mirror newspaper, the construction and operation of the Pier 1 Restaurant (now Coco's) and he dabbled in general construction contracting. In his retirement he drove the handicap bus for Marq Tran.

Dewey was always active in the community. He formerly served on the Marquette City Commission, was a co-founder of the Marquette Iron Rangers Hockey Team, and served on the board of directors of the Holy Cross Cemetery. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others, but did so behind the scenes. He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral.

A very devoted husband and family man, Dewey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion E. St. Cyr of Marquette; four children, son Mark (Sherry) St. Cyr of Troy, MI; daughters, Eve (Wally) Haley of Birmingham, MI, Carolyn (Peter) Matuzak of Marquette and Susan (Vince) Gonzales of San Antonio, TX. Dewey's grandchildren include Michelle, Charles, Brett, Reed, Hannah, Jacqueline, Michael, James, David, Gianna, Brandon, Kevin and Adam; one sister, Louise Ricker of Marquette; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam (Rosemary) Lind of Cleveland, WI, Dolores Lind of Westminster, CA and Gordon (Louise) Lind of Portland, MI; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son, L. Kirk St. Cyr; brother, Earl St. Cyr; brother-in-law, Charles Ricker and sister-in-law, Agnes (Richard) Shogren.

At Mr. St. Cyr's wishes, a private Memorial Mass will be held in July with inurnment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
