Friday, July 25 is the deadline for organizers to register their block parties for National Night Out.

National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, is “America’s Night Out Against Crime.” In 1984, it began as a nationwide effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Oaklanders hosted 667 parties in 2013. This year, Oakland’s goal is to have over 675 block parties citywide. To register you block party, please visit http://www2.oaklandnet.com/nno. For more information, please contact Brenda Ivey, Police Service Technician, at [email protected] or (510) 238-3091.
