Tune up your brain playing Go, the world's best board game for 4,000 years and counting!

Welcome to Go in North Oakland!  We are currently meeting from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm most Sundays at Black Spring Coffee Co., 2930 Telegraph Ave., in the Northgate/Koreatown neighborhood adjacent to Pill Hill.

Drop in to play or learn any time from 10:00 am on, although if you want to be assured of getting a game I suggest showing up by 4:00 pm.  Play can and often does continue after 5:00 pm, but I'm not guaranteed to be there after that.

This is the regular board; there are smaller ones for beginners and for quick games.  (Clock is optional.)

Occasionally we meet elsewhere, usually when we have a booth at a community fair.  For any such schedule changes as well as information beyond what's on this page, please see our Meetup site.  Joining it is optional, but it's free of charge and spamless, and will keep you automatically updated.  An RSVP there isn't needed in order to attend, although it's helpful.

Beginners of all ages are welcome at any time.  If you don't know the rules yet, before you attend please check out this excellentinteractive tutorial.  It takes at most an hour to learn, including an initial small-board game.

I offer a class for kids and youth from 10 to 11, but that requires an RSVP (on the Meetup site) no later than Saturday night so I can be prepared.

Players who have their own sets should bring them to make sure we have enough to go around.

There is no fee for playing, but donations for playing equipment purchases and other expenses are much appreciated.

Hope to see you there!

There's nothing surreal about this game.  Deal with it, chess players! :)
