In the Spring of 2012 they tore up Taylor Street downtown on both sides of Water Street. Sidewalks were removed and the street excavated to install underground services. Overhead wiring was moved underground.

This eliminated a bunch of parking spaces, as Taylor had dense angle and perpendicular parking. The work snarled traffic as they spilled over in to Water and Washington Streets. On busy days, parking on Washington was full all the way up to the post office.

Despite the construction, all businesses on Taylor Street remained open. The crews built temporary sidewalks and gravel paths to keep businesses accessible.

The project was completed at the end of June 2012.
