Sanders J. Zimmerman operated a general goods and drug store in the commercial building at Powhatan from 1917 to 1920. In 1920, he sold the building to R.L. and Ida Flippo.

 He had been residing in Powhatan as early as 1901, when he discovered a pearl potentially worth 1000 dollars.¹
