Titania was a 14-steamer built in Pittsburgh in 1856. She was purchased by John D. Adams to handle U.S. Mail on the White River, Arkansas. It was said to have towed the first coal down the Arkansas River from a mine at Short Mountain Creek, seventy-five miles below Van Buren, to Little Rock.[1] Contemporary newspaper reports said that, should Adams get the contract, he would also use the ship to carry mail from Jackson port to Pocahontas.[2] However, it seems  this did not happen. In 1858, it was decided that a new boat would be built specifically for this purpose.[3]

On October 13, 1858, at Crystal Hill Crossing above Little Rock, Titania exploded and sank. One person was killed.[4]
