These lights twinkle in memory of Rick Moore 1986-2004 who, in his short life, always wanted us to put up "More Lights"

Happyland Christmas Lights has deep roots in Raleigh, as many of the decorations come from a famous light display on New Bern Avenue at the Cross family's home. Bobby and Jan Moore purchased these famous holiday items, many of which were cracked and broken, and restored them.

"Many were crushed flat, and others were in pieces. I had to build forms and frames for some of the figurines and then fill them with foam. For some I had to form new bases with the foam, then use marine plaster to make them waterproof. After the repair work, my wife Jan repainted each one by hand. She used and mixed basic acrylic craft paint," explains Bobby Moore in an interview with Candid Slice.

They have many other incredible landmark pieces as well, including an old-timey firetruck, a full-sized dinosaur that once stood outside a downtown Raleigh business, and the iconic manger scene. Thousands of lights blanket the Moore house like magic snow. A Tarheels Ram can be seen being roasted by the NC State wolf, Santa moons the passing cars, and a space ship glows eerily in the background. It's a must-see light display, and a Christmas tradition that dates back to the 1960's in Raleigh.

Happyland Christmas Lights at the Moore house is located at the corner of Penny Rd. and Huntingwood Drive, Raleigh, NC. It is the creation of Bobby Moore with supporting roles being played by his family members. There are thousands of lights, numerous blow ups, blow molds, wire sculptures and a real fire truck as well as several wooden displays, most of which are home made.
