Turtles can be very cute, but they are also very mean. They often have the personality of a grumpy old man, so approach them as such. Do not give them food or liquor, but help them cross the road and don't hit them with your car.

You will know if what you see is a turtle because it has a shell and it looks like a tiny dinosaur. If he sees you, he will usually try to put his head in his shell. You might find a turtle in the water, or on the land, but you will usually only find a tortoise on land. If you are near marshy brackish water, you can call a turtle a terrapin.

Some people keep turtles as pets, but they aren't very cuddly so I don't have one.
